Nowhere on my birth certificate did it ever say life would be easy or fair and as co-author of my life story, I’m learning to edit and review as I go. I’m writing in pen so I can’t erase mistakes but there’s always time to turn the page and keep writing.

I'm Dina and this is my little journal of inner ramblings and wholesome witticisms. I’m a social worker and a lifelong avid lover of the written word and its struggle against silence.

After facing a few health struggles, I made a vow to struggle against the most chronic, insidious and toxic loads of intolerance and injustice existing around us every day. Dispel stigmas and disseminate the truth.

Sabr (صبر) - Arabic for cactus and patient perseverance.

To have sabr is to have patience, forbearance, composure, equanimity, perseverance, and endurance in the face of overwhelming odds and adversity.

The cactus is a symbol of the perseverance of the Palestinian people, who like the cactus with its tenacious roots, survive and grow in defiance of any adverse conditions they’re thrown in.

Sumoud (صمود ) - Arabic for steadfastness.

To have sumoud is to be like the olive tree deeply rooted in its lands, determined to stand its ground.

Life was beautiful before any kind of chronic illness, and it’s more beautiful after it. If you take a minute to think about it, you’ll see that life really is a beautiful struggle.

So, challenge the world and revolt and learn to remain courageous. Cultivate sabr and live with every ounce of sumoud you have.
